According to Le Anh Tuan, director of Pu Mat National Park, African swine fever killed the wild boars.
The wild boars were found dead during forest patrols carried out by the board's staff in November, with no signs of illegal hunting being responsible for the deaths.

The Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine collected samples from the dead wild boars for testing, and the results later confirmed that the samples tested positive for the African swine fever virus.
After identifying the cause, the national park's management board contacted veterinary authorities for assistance in preventing and controlling African swine fever. However, Tuan added that since this is a special-use forest, more viable options exist than spraying disinfectants to manage the outbreak.
He noted, "If we find any more dead wild boars, we'll bury them to curb the spread of the virus. "
