In the space of two years of playing chess he stunned the judging committee by winning all six gold medals for individuals and team events at the Southeast Asia Youth Chess Tournament and the U8 group in 2010.

After this event Khoi was granted the FIDE master title. In the same year he also continued on to taking the gold medal for standard chess at the Asian Youth Chess Tournament, the U8 group in China.

Nguyen Anh Khoi  went on to win two gold medals for standard and rapid chess in the Asian Youth Chess Championship 2012, the U10 group.
