The contest "Turn off the lights, turn on the ideas" is a part of a series of activities for Earth Hour campaign 2013.

Singers Ngoc Khue and Dinh Manh Ninh, together with junior artist Phung Hoa Hoai Linh will act as ambassadors for this year’s contest.

The launching has attracted the participation of designer Kelly Bui and artist Thanh Phong along with representatives from businesses and schools.

The contest’s organising board has received initiatives from contestants from January 15 through February 28.

With the theme “We need your T-shirts to save our planet”, this year’s contest will be organised on a larger scale targeting young people who love designing, fashion and the environment.

The contest was first launched in 2010 by the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF). The contest has received around 1,500 T-shirt designs with various messages about Earth Hour, climate change and environment so far.

The message of this year’s contest requires contestants to work out their own detailed solutions, actions and commitments via slogans and typography on T-shirts, instead of creating images to call for public awareness as in previous years.

Many young artists and models such as singers Quynh Anh Shyn, Chi Pu, Be Tran, and Duong Tran Nghia have contributed to the ‘I will if you will’ campaign as part of Earth Hour 2013.

The campaign calls on people to turn off engines of their vehicles while waiting for traffic lights for over 25 seconds to save energy and protect the environment by reducing the volume of carbon emissions.

From this year, the WWF has handed over the organising of Earth Hour to street fashion label Boo’s  environmental corporate responsibility campaign, Action4Future with support from the Centre of Live and Learn for Environment and Community (Live & Learn).
