According to the proposal, Le Loi would connect Nguyen Hue pedestrianised area and Ben Thanh Market, which will become a new tourist attraction to visitors, especially foreign tourists to the city.

"The street can be opened for pedestrians after the metro project running through it was completed," the proposal said. "Traffic will be organised just like the Nguyen Hue where vehicles will travel on two surrounding lanes and pedestrians use the lane between them."

The committee also proposed to ban trucks and buses of 16 seats or bigger from the two surrounding lanes of Le Loi Street when it is open for pedestrians. Meanwhile, the street would be totally closed to traffic during the weekend.

Commenting on the proposal, the municipal Department of Tourism and Department of Culture and Sports said that it was a good idea to turn Le Loi into a pedestrian street thanks to its ideal location.

"Authorities should study a suitable design and proper organisation of events for the street so as to make it a new attractive tourism product in in HCM City," the Department of Tourism said.
