The donation was granted to the Lao Cai Provincial Fatherland Front Committee this morning, September 13.

A flash flood occurred in Lang Nu Village in Bao Yen District on September 10, burying 37 households with 158 residents.

As of 9.20 am on September 13, rescue forces had recovered 48 bodies from the landslide site while still searching for 39 people who remained missing. Seventeen others were found injured and had been rushed to hospitals.

On September 11, Dantri/DTiNews launched a charity programme coded 240502 to call for the community to support the village.

The newspaper received donations of VND1.32 billion (USD51,968) for the village by the afternoon of September 12.

Given the urgent need for prompt village reconstruction, Editor-in-Chief of Dantri/DTiNews, Pham Tuan Anh, decided to use part of the newspaper’s Charity Programme Fund to top up the total to VND2 billion.

Anh expressed his deep gratitude to readers, units, and organisations for their trust in Dantri/DTiNews and jointly donating to assist Lang Nu Village. He said the newspaper will continue supporting the village in the long-term reconstruction process.

Dantri/DTiNews Newspaper expected that with community support, local authorities will quickly carry out the village reconstruction.

Giang Thị Dung, Vice Chairwoman of the Lao Cai People’s Committee, expressed her gratitude to Dantri/DTiNews and its readers for the donation.

Dung added that, under the newspaper’s proposal, the donation would be used to build 37 houses for 37 families in Lang Nu Village.

“Today, we will survey the land for clearance and expect to finish the construction by December 31 this year so that residents can stabilise their lives before the 2025 Tet Lunar New Year,” Dung noted.

The same day, the newspaper also provided 10 tonnes of rice, 200 blankets, and mosquito nets to people in Bao Yen District in Lao Cai.

On Thursday, five tonnes of rice and two tonnes of necessities donated by Dantri/DTiNews readers were also given to flood-stricken Tuyen Quang Province.
