Many residential areas in Hanoi will face water shortages this summer.
"While demand has increased, we're facing a fall in underground water sources and water quality," the company explained.
The company warned that water shortages may occur in some areas in Ba Dinh, Hai Ba Trung, and Tay Ho districts this summer, especially during the most severe hot days.
The Fresh Water Business and Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (Viwaco), which supplies water to 150,000 people in districts including Thanh Xuan, Nam Tu Liem, and Cau Giay also said they would face difficulties ensuring enough water this summer.
"The water source from the Da River has remained stable but some other water companies in Hoai Duc and Quoc Oai districts are also taking it," Viwaco explained. "Meanwhile, we also have to share the water source from the Duong River with the Ha Dong Water Company. We'll lack an estimated 10,000 m3 per day during severe hot days".
Some other water plant projects including the Red River and Xuan Mai water plants are facing slow progress.
