Vietnam documentary film wins UNICEF prize

A documentary film produced by Vietnam Television has won United Nations Children's Fund prize at a contest in Japan.

A documentary film produced by Vietnam Television (VTV) has won United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) prize at a contest in Japan.

The film Chi Gai or Sister was part of the Baby on the Way series initiated by EBS TV featuring work by South Korea, Chile, Cambodia, Thailand, Italy and Vietnam stations.

The film is about the real-life difficulties of children in the mountainous province of Lao Cai.

Sister was presented with the UNICEF prize at Japan Prize 2018 for its message about protecting children’s rights.

This year, Japan Prize consists of five first prizes; the Japan foundation President prize and UNICEF prize and one Grand Prix prize.

The UK, Australia, the Netherlands, Denmark and France also won prizes.

The Japan Prize, held by Japan’s NHK, honours excellence in educational television.
