According to Dr Ngo Phuong Lan, chairman and general secretary of the association, due to Covid-19, cinemas in Vietnam have been temporarily closed. They have not had any source of income while still having to cover monthly fixed costs.

All cinemas in Vietnam have been temporarily closed due to Covid-19.
Meanwhile, the plan to produce many films has also been suspended.
Lan added that if the pandemic situation remains difficult, cinemas can’t be reopened. If they reopen in the coming time, cinemas would find it hard to attract audiences who maybe fear Covid-19 infection.
Under the association’s recommendation, the government should consider a valued-added tax exemption for cinemas and film producers.
The agency also suggested a delay of corporate income tax and social insurance payment this year for these companies. It would also be necessary to offer them preferential interest rates.
