>> More Sua trees cut down in Hanoi
The City of Hanoi was forced to put steel cylinders around 20 Sua trees on Xuan Thuy Street because of illegal logging.

Each metal frame is between 1.5 and 2 metres tall around the base of the tree. This is one among several different measures that Cau Giay District is implementing to save their Sua trees.
The district authority will encourage locals, particularly those living on or near streets with these trees to be on alert and contact authorities to prevent the illegal logging.
Still, many are worried that the steel barriers may not be enough, and may even aid thieves.
Mrs. Minh, owner of a tea stall on Xuan Thuy Street, said, “I\'ve been selling here for several years. I did not know that these were Sua trees. Those metal tubes might just send a signal to thieves that the trees are valuable."
