Abandoned brothers struggle to live

Three brothers in Ben Tre Province are in need of help to continue studying after their father died and mother abandoned them.

18 year-old Huynh Quoc Ninh, the eldest brother, said, "My father was ill when I was in secondary school. I had to collect scrap and sell lottery tickets so I ended up dropping out of school at eighth grade."

After their father died and their mother left, Ninh became the sole pillar and tried to find odd jobs. He now sells lottery tickets, works as a bricklayer and works at ports so that his brothers can still going to school. Their grandfather, Huynh Van Cu, is 70 years old and suffers from bad health and their relatives are also poor so they can't help much.

Local Red Cross Organisation helps them with rice

Without any land, their grandfather planted vegetables near the local cemetery and received rice from the neighbours and the local Red Cross Organisation.

The local Red Cross Organisation has supported them with school supplies and the school has also slashed their tuition costs by half. But they are still struggling to earn enough to pay for the daily meals but are now in debt for their school tuition.

13 year-old Huynh Quoc Khanh said, "If we keep owing school tuition like this, I'll drop out too so our youngest brother can still go to school."
