At this time of every year, people in Tay Tuu are busy preparing for the biggest flower harvest.
Small 15-20W fluorescent bulbs with yellow glow are lit from 6 pm to 5 am the next day. This will run for around 30-45 days.
The lights are mostly used 5-7 days after planting the flowers.
Dang Tien Dat, a senior daisy grower in Tay Tuu, said that ensuring flowers bloom at the right moment for Tet needs meticulous care. “It often takes 3-4 months before daisies can be harvested. My garden now has 40,000 flowers. I hope the lighting can help the daisy bloom on Tet,” he added.
Every day, Dat must stay up late to protect the garden from pests, including snails, insects and rodents.
Yellow daisies, white daisies, lilies, and roses are typical flowers of Tay Tuu.
Households planted daisies around two weeks ago. At present, many flower beds have grown to a height of 20-40 cm.
Tay Tuu has 300 hectares of land dedicated to flower planting, and it has become a major supplier of fresh flowers for Hanoi and neighbouring localities.
