Do Van An from Da Lat City said that every year, his family prepares various types of orchids, primarily moth and boat orchids, to meet the Tet demand.
These days, the family is arranging their garden to make room for moth orchids.
The orchids sourced from local households are checked and sorted before being potted.
According to An, orchids must be packaged very carefully to protect them from damage during transportation. An’s family sells the orchids to customers in Lam Dong as well as those from different localities nationwide.
Phan Thanh Sang, from Xa Don Commune in Don Duong District, has hired more workers to tend to his orchid garden ahead of Tet.
According to the lunar calendar, the orchid harvest begins in mid-November. The flowers are then packed into specialised cardboard boxes for transportation.
Currently, Sang's farm packs about 150 boxes daily, which will double during the peak Tet season. To meet the high demand, workers must work from morning until night.
Lam Dong is home to 750 hectares of flower plantations, including 100 hectares dedicated to moth orchids. Local growers have adopted advanced technology in flower cultivation.
