The forest covers 2,675 hectares, stretching five coastal communes of Thuy Truong, Thuy Hai, Thuy Xuan, Thai Do, and Thai Thuong, with Thuy Truong having the largest area with 909 hectares.
Thai Thuy has the largest area of mangrove forests in Thai Binh.
Local people benefit from the forest for various types of seafood such as snails, crabs, and mudskippers, earning an income of between VND300,000-500,000 daily.
Residents in the communes of Thuy Xuan, Thuy Hai, Thuy Truong, and others usually catch clams based tide conditions. In the 10th lunar month, the best time for catching clams is from 4 pm until mid-night. Most of women engage in the work.
Tools used for clam catching are quite simple, including a metal rod shaped like a hook or a three-pronged rake for digging. A person can catch 5-7 kilos of clams per day. Clams are normally sold at around VND55,000 per kilo.
The mangrove forest continues to be expanded, improving the ecological environment.
