VND14 trillion southern highway expansion proposed

The Vietnam Expressway Corporation is seeking the Ministry of Transport and the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises for approval on the VND13.88 trillion (USD588.23 million)expansion of a southern expressway.

Under VEC’s proposal, the firm wanted to expand a 22-kilometre section of the HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway which links Belt Road 2 and Bien-Hoa Vung Tau Expressway.

The work would be carried out from the fourth quarter of this year to the third quarter of 2026.

According to VEC, the eight-lane section could be operated stably until 2040. After that, it should be upgraded into 10 lanes.

Regarding the investment capital for the project, VEC recommended that 44.4 percent would be from the state budget, while the remainder sourced from the firm. If the state budget fails to ensure this, VEC would seek to raise the entire investment capital by itself.

The first phase of the HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway was put into operation in June 2016 with four lanes.

The Ministry of Transport reported that traffic on the route has risen at around 10 percent per year and the areas between An Phu in HCM City to Long Thanh area in Dong Nai are already busy.
