Deputy PM Le Minh Khai on Friday signed a decision to spend over VND2.65 trillion (USD 115 million) to buy additional 19,998,810 doses of Pfizer's BNT162 Covid-19 vaccine following a proposal from the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry of Health will be responsible for the purchase of the vaccine as soon as possible in an effort to meet the need for the country's vaccination campaign against Covid-19.

Vietnam aims to vaccinate 70 percent of its population by next April. The country has so far received over 35 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine through the global COVAX facility, donations from other countries, and commercial contracts signed by the Health Ministry and companies.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vietnam may get 16-17 million Covid-19 vaccine doses this month, either as aid or through commercial contracts.

By the end of September 17, Vietnam had conducted over 33.00 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 6.18 million people having received two doses.
