According to local authorities, prolonged rainfall caused water levels at the Den Stream culvert in Phu Rieng Commune to rise rapidly, with strong currents sweeping away the women and two motorbikes at around 8 pm.

Emergency responders from Phu Rieng and neighbouring Thuan Loi communes launched a rescue operation shortly after receiving reports of the incident.
All three victims were rescued safely. One motorbike was recovered, while efforts were continuing to locate the second vehicle.
Nguyen Thi Xuan Hoa, secretary of the Phu Rieng Commune Party Committee, and commune chairman Nguyen Danh Tung were at the scene to oversee rescue efforts and support emergency personnel.
Local authorities also proposed commendations for residents who helped rescue the victims.
The incident occurred as heavy rain affected parts of Dong Nai and HCM City, causing flooding in several areas.
