Three scientists honoured with Ta Quang Buu Award

The scientific award, named after scientist Ta Quang Buu, is held annually to honor and encourage scientists who have achieved excellent results in research in natural sciences and technology.

The ceremony saw the attendance of deputy PM Vu Duc Dam, leaders of agencies and departments from the National Assembly and Government, and Minister of Science and Technology, Chu Ngoc Anh and other leaders of the ministry.

The major category of the Ta Quang Buu Award 2018 was given to two scientists, namely Dr. Tran Dinh Phong of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Associate Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hung of Ho Chi Minh City International University under the Vietnam National University.

Dr. Tran Dinh Phong is the author of the scientific work in the physics field entitled ‘Coordination Polymer Structure and Revisited Hydrogen Evolution Catalytic Mechanism for Amorphous Molybdenum Sulfide’ (published on Nature Materials, 15, 640-646).

Associate Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hung is the author of the scientific work in the agrobiology field entitled ‘In Vitro Digestibility and Invivo Glucose Response of Native and Physically Modified Rice Starches Varying Amylose Contents’ (published on Food Chemistry).

The 2018 Ta Quang Buu Award for young scientists was given to Dr. Do Quoc Tuan of the Hanoi University of Science under the Vietnam National University for his work in the physics field with the name ‘Higher Dimensional Nonlinear Massive Gravity’ (published on Physical Review D 93, 104003).

Since 2014, Ta Quang Buu Awards has helped foster researche in fundamental sciences in particular as well as general technology in Vietnam. The award has aided Vietnamese scientists to stay competitive with their international counterparts.
