The coastal district of Dong Hai has been hardest hit by the storm in the province with one killed and many houses collapsed, particularly in Long Dien Dong Commune.

Nguyen Thanh Phong, 47, in Ganh Hao Town, Dong Hai District died after being knocked off his fishing boat by a strong gust of wind, reported Lai Thanh An, chief office manager of the provincial Rescue and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control Board.
As of January 4, around 117 houses in Bac Lieu were ruined by the storm, causing initial damage estimated at VND5 billion (USD215,625).
At least six people have been injured, four of them hospitalised and infrastructure has been damaged in the province.




Local authorities support storm-affected households
Meanwhile, according to Ca Mau Province’s Tran Van Thoi District People’s Committee, 14 local fishing boats with a total 89 fisherman are still sheltering in the sea area of Thailand and Malaysia due to the storm.
Pabuk strengthened from a tropical depression in the Truong Sa Archipelago and is the first tropical storm to hit Vietnamese waters this year.
