The visit is made at the invitations of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam and State President Luong Cuong.

At approximately 11.30 am, the aircraft carrying President Xi and a high-level Chinese delegation landed at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi.

Greeting the Chinese leader at the airport on the Vietnamese side were State President Luong Cuong; Permanent Member of the Party Central Committee's Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; Chief of the Party Central Office Le Hoai Trung; Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu; and Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh.

The welcome ceremony featured a traditional drum performance by Vietnamese women who wore the traditional costumes of different groups in the country.

Many staff members from the Chinese Embassy and Chinese students, professionals, and workers currently studying and working in Hanoi also came to welcome President Xi Jinping.

Following the ceremony, a limousine escorted President Xi from the airport into the city centre, passing through Nhat Tan Bridge, Vo Chi Cong Street, Ring Road 2, Lang Street, and Tran Duy Hung Street en route to the JW Marriott Hotel.

Thousands of residents lined the streets, waving flags to warmly welcome the Chinese President to Hanoi.

This marks President Xi Jinping's fourth visit to Vietnam as the top leader of the Chinese Party and State, and his second during the 13th Congress term of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the 20th Congress term of the Communist Party of China.

During his stay from April 14–15, President Xi is expected to hold high-level talks with General Secretary To Lam and State President Luong Cuong to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the two parties and two states.
