The Rescue, Conservation and Development Centre at Kon Ka Kinh National Park carried out the release of the rare animals on May 11 following an intensive recovery process.
The animals released belonged to Vietnam’s protected IB and IIB categories for endangered and rare wildlife. They included a yellow mountain tortoise, Indian eagle, pig-tailed macaque, Sunda pangolins, striped-neck turtle, toothed turtle, otter and giant Asian pond turtle.
Tran Van Thu, director of the rescue and conservation centre, said all of the animals had been received during April through voluntary handovers by local residents and coordination with authorities in Gia Lai Province.
“When they first arrived, many of the animals were in poor health, with some seriously injured and physically exhausted,” Thu said.
“Several individuals had also lost their natural survival instincts.”
After undergoing rescue treatment and rehabilitation, all eight animals recovered successfully, regained natural behaviours and were deemed fit to survive independently in the wild, according to the centre.
