Nguyen Thi Tinh, 57, has been struggling with kidney failure for the past five years. She now needs dialysis three times a week at the Quang Ngai Provincial General Hospital.
However, she is now taking care of her husband Pham Duc Lanh who is facing the final stage of bladder cancer.
"He was found to suffer the final stage of cancer three years ago," Tinh said. "Doctors said that his condition could not be cured. And he's been bedridden since."
The poor couple don't have any savings or wages and are now depending on the modest income of their son who is working for a local coffee shop.
"Doctors said that my condition can improve if I have a kidney transplant," Tinh said. "However, we can’t afford the VND1 billion (USD42,310) fee for surgery. My husband is staying at a local health centre for palliative care but he wanted to return home to save money."
Tinh hopes to receive some financial support to help reduce the pain her husband has faced in his final days.
