Angolan Minister of External Relations Tete Antonio welcomes President Luong Cuong and his spouse at the airport
A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by President Luong Cuong arrived at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport in the capital city of Luanda at 4:15 p.m. (local time) on August 6, beginning a State visit to Angola from August 6 to 8 at the invitation of President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco.
They were welcomed at the airport were Angolan Minister of External Relations Tete Antonio, Angolan Ambassador to Vietnam Fernando Miguel, Governor of Luanda Luis Manuel da Fonseca, and Chief of State Protocol Jorge Pataca of the Angolan Ministry of External Relations.
This marks the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader to Angola in many years, following the visits of President Tran Duc Luong in 2002 and General Secretary Nong Duc Manh in 2008. The visit is particularly meaningful as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (November 12, 1975 – 2025), reaffirming Vietnam’s deep regard for Angola and the enduring friendship forged during their struggles for national independence.
During the visit, President Luong Cuong is scheduled to hold talks with President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco; meet with National Assembly President Carolina Cerqueira; work with leaders of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA); meet the Vietnamese community in Angola; and attend a ceremony marking 50 years of diplomatic ties.
Notably, President Luong Cuong will deliver an important speech at the Angolan National Assembly, conveying Vietnam’s vision of making greater contributions to global politics, the world economy, and the advancement of human civilisation.
