Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has asked concerned agencies to tighten control over karaoke bars following a tragic fire at a bar in Binh Duong Province.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism need to intensify inspections of karaokes to detect health and safety violations. The ministry has also been urged to consider more stringent regulations in licensing karaokes. Business licenses should have clearly defined endpoints and licensing must be based on fire prevention and control standards.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade need to instruct Electricity Vietnam to implement electricity safety measures for karaoke facilities.

The Ministry of Construction are responsible for instructing localities to appraise fire prevention and control at karaoke establishments before licensing them.

According to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s direction, localities nationwide must require all karaoke parlours to have fire exits and fire-fighting equipment.

All centrally-managed localities need to inspect their karaokes in their areas and suspend the operation of establishments that do not meet fire safety benchmarks.

Thirty-three people died at a fire at the An Phu karaoke bar in Binh Duong Province on September 6.
