A long-lasting cold front has affected the northern region of Vietnam, with temperatures forecasted to fall to below nine degrees centigrade in mountainous areas.

According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold weather has affected most northeastern localities since early this morning. The cold wave would continue hitting many localities in the central region of Vietnam.

The northern region would see a temperature of 14-17 degrees centigrade, dropping possibly below nine degrees centigrade in some mountainous areas.

Hanoi would have a temperature of between 15 to 20 degrees centigrade.

This cold spell has been predicted to last until February 18. Areas from Quang Binh to Thua Thien-Hue would experience temperatures of 16-19 degrees centigrade.
