Vietnam's northern region is struggling with heavy rainy spells, with northern mountainous areas being the hardest hit.

According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, rain started yesterday evening in some mountainous areas in Son La, Hoa Binh, and Lang Son provinces.

Muong Do Commune in Son La experienced 61.6 mm of rainfall on Sunday. Meanwhile, Hop Tien Commune in Hoa Binh and Nhat Tien Commune in Lang Son saw 50.8mm and 46.7mm of rainfall, respectively.

From this evening, August 19, northern localities and the northern central province of Thanh Hoa will experience heavy rain and strong wind. The rainy weather will last until August 22. Lightning, hail, and violent winds will occur during rain.

Downpours will hit Hanoi for 3-4 days.

Meanwhile, the central region has continued experiencing hot weather, which is forecasted to last until the end of this month.

The Central Highlands and southern regions are also struggling with heat waves.
