The 48 positions include Vice State President, National Assembly Chairwoman, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, the Prime Minister and his deputies, ministers and other Government members, Judges of the People's Supreme Court, Head of the People's Supreme Procuracy and the Chief State Auditor.

The vote of confidence is not applied for State President Nguyen Phu Trong and Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung who have not taken their term of office for nine months.

The National Assembly first conducted vote of confidence for high-ranking officials at its 5th working session in June 2013, which has demonstrated innovation and promoted supervisory role of the legislative body.

Confidence vote is devided into three levels, namely "high confidence," "confidence," and "low confidence". A high-ranking official who is rated "low confidence" by more than half of the lawmakers shall ask for resignation.
