Mai Thanh Lake in Bao Loc City’s Loc Tien Ward is home to 50 fish cages owned by three houses.

Many fish have been found dead at Mai Thanh Lake
Since June 22, the lake has been full of dead fish, including carp, tilapia, grass carp, and tilapia.
Tran Van Tien’s family from Loc Chau Commune has 33 cages, followed by Tran Van Tinh, Tien’s son, with 12 cages and Tran Linh Giang, with six cages.
According to the fish breeders, at the beginning of the annual rainy season, fish often suffer from oxygen deficiency and die at a small rate. This year, many more fish have died, which may be due to oxygen deficiency caused by the prolonged drought and the subsequent heavy rains.
Most fish will soon be caught, so the mass die-off has created severe losses for the farmers.
Over the past three days, up to 15 tonnes of fish belonging to Tien and his son’s family have died, resulting in a loss of nearly VND1 billion.
Currently, grass carp are sold for VND85,000-90,000. However, the price is just only a few thousand Vietnam dong per kilo for the dead fish to be sold as a material to make fertilizer.
The situation has been reported to Bao Loc City’s authorities to determine the cause of the fish deaths and support residents in mitigating the consequences.
