Nineteen provinces have announced later starting dates for the new academic year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The localities are An Giang, Bac Giang, Bac Kan, Gia Lai, Ha Nam, Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Lao Cai, Ninh Binh, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai, Binh Duong, Hung Yen, Dien Bien and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.
Among those, Son La will start the new school year earliest. All local students will return to school from August 16, except for kindergarteners, who will go to school on September 1.
The remaining localities in the list will allow their students to return to school on September 1, while some provinces will have first graders start school on August 23.
On August 4, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a framework for the 2021-2022 school year for localities to develop their own suitable plans.
Before the pandemic, schools in Vietnam often started the new year school year from mid-August after a three-month summer break and organise the official back to school ceremony on September 5.
