Man hands over eight turtles found by roadside in Dak Lak

A man in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has handed over eight turtles he found by the roadside to local police.

Police in Hoa My Commune said they received the turtles found by a local resident while he was on his way to work. The man, Bui Vi Hao, 42, from Phu Nhieu Hamlet, discovered the animals by the roadside and suspected they could be rare species.

The turtles included two yellow mountain turtles and six keeled box turtles, police said. Hao collected the animals and brought them to the commune police headquarters to hand them over voluntarily.

Police praised Hao’s action as demonstrating civic responsibility in wildlife protection, and urged the public not to hunt, keep, trade or illegally transport wild and endangered animals.
