A man in Bac Ninh Province has just been arrested for allegedly selling fake air tickets to many Vietnamese people living abroad.
Police arrested Kim Anh Dung, 28, in Bac Ninh Province for allegedly selling fake air tickets to many Vietnamese people living abroad.
A unit from the Ministry of Public Security co-operated with Bac Giang Provincial Police to raid a ring accused of selling fake air tickets to Vietnamese people abroad.
Three Facebook accounts including Bin Dinogo, (at https://facebook.com/sanverequocte), Bin Yoosee (at https://facebook.com/100043535108528), and Phòng Vé Châu Âu Thanh Bình - Travel (at https://facebook.com/phuongviettravel) announced they were selling air tickets for repatriation flights for overseas Vietnamese.
After investigations, Bac Giang Police arrested Kim Anh Dung, 28, who created and managed the three Facebook accounts.
Anh Dung told the police that he joined some Facebook groups of overseas Vietnamese communities in some countries like Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Taiwan in 2020. Seeing the high demand for returning to Vietnam from these groups during the Covid-19 pandemic, he often posted information about repatriation flights and ticket sales. Anh Dung created large numbers of fake accounts to like and comment on his posts in order to gain more trust from other people.
When receiving orders for tickets, the man used photo editing apps to create the fake tickets and sent them to customers who were asked to send money to his bank accounts. After receiving money, he blocked the accounts of the customers.
Anh Dung said that he had successfully sold the fake tickets to 30 customers and collected about VND 1.5 billion (USD 65,217).
Bac Giang Police said that they were working with the victims to further investigate the case.
The Ministry of Public Security has advised people not to buy air tickets from social networks to avoid being cheated.
