Chinese player Lin Dan shattered his Vietnamese rival Nguyen Tien Minh’s hope of winning the World Badminton Federation (WBF) World Championship in a semi-final match on August 10.

Chinese player Lin Dan shattered his Vietnamese rival Nguyen Tien Minh’s hope of winning the World Badminton Federation (WBF) World Championship in a semi-final match on August 10.

The first set began as a close tussle before Lin Dan’s five consecutive points positioned him to take it 21-17.  

In the second set, Minh could only keep pace until 6-6. Lin Dan consistently extended his lead and won the match in 49 minutes with a second set score line of 21-15.

Lin Dan will now face the winner of Malaysian player Lee Chong Wei’s match against Chinese compatriot Du Pengyu in the championship final.

Despite the defeat, Tien Minh’s marked progress is expected to earn him a jump in the WBF rankings due to be announced next week.
