Around 400 households, comprising 1,600 residents, will be relocated to make way for the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant, according to a newly released environmental impact assessment by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Of those affected, 75 per cent rely on fishing, 10 per cent on small-scale trade, 5 per cent are hired labourers, and 10 per cent work in agriculture.

They are expected to be resettled in a 65.6-hectare site in Phuoc Dinh Commune, adjacent to provincial road DT701, the main external transport link for the project. The resettlement area will be built to accommodate 4,500 to 5,000 people and will include a coastal tourism services zone and a public square with a park.

The location is considered suitable for docking fishing boats, supporting marine activities and developing into an urban zone.

The project has a total investment of over VND 12.39 trillion (approximately USD 490 million) and is scheduled for implementation from this year until 2030.

The Politburo is advancing both Ninh Thuan 1 and Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power projects in collaboration with international partners, to bring the plants into operation between 2030 and 2035.

Khanh Hoa Province spans 8,555.86 square kilometres and has a population exceeding 2.24 million.
