Javan pangolin found in Danang home garden released into wild

A rare Javan pangolin was released back into the wild after being found in a household garden in the central city of Danang.

The animal was discovered by Trinh Vi, 52, while he was feeding chickens behind his home in Phu Thuan Commune. Suspecting it was protected wildlife, he reported the discovery and handed it over to local police.

Authorities later identified the animal as a Javan pangolin (Manis javanica), a species listed in Group IB of Vietnam’s protected endangered and rare forest animals.

The pangolin, weighing about 2 kg and in stable condition, was released into its natural habitat after authorities completed the required procedures.

Police urged residents to promptly report and surrender any endangered or rare wild animals found, warning that illegal hunting, transport, trading or captivity of protected wildlife is subject to strict penalties under Vietnamese law.
