Deputy chairman of HCM City, Le Thanh Liem on Wednesday received vice president of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO),Tatshuhiro Shindo, and a delegation of Japanese enterprises who came to seek investment opportunities in the city.

Tatshuhiro Shindo said that the enterprises coming to Vietnam this time were from many fields including transportation, cosmetics, trade, construction who wished to learn about the business environment in HCM City and some southern provinces.
"Not all of them know well about the business environment in Vietnam, he said. "JETRO has just filed a brochure to introduce more information about HCM City and some southern provinces, but we still hope to get more support from the city's leaders."
Some enterprises already have representative offices in HCM City and said they wanted to expand production. A spokesperson from an import-export company said that they were studying the local coffee market to import unprocessed coffee to Japan.
According to HCM City's deputy chairman Le Thanh Liem, Japanese companies now have over 900 projects valued at over USD 3 billion in the city.
"At present Japan is among top 10 countries and territories investing in HCM City," Liem said. "We’re always welcome and willing to assist foreign investors, including those from Japan."
Japan is the second largest foreign investor in Vietnam in 2016 with newly-registered investment of USD 2.58 billion, accounting for 10.6% of the total newly-registered FDI in the country.
