One-kilometre Yen Lang Street in Dong Da District that links Thai Ha and Lang streets was put into use in 2013. The lighting system has been installed along the road since then, but it does not work.

Meanwhile, the street sees dense traffic as it has many schools and agency headquarters along it.

Pham Van Khanh, 54, a local resident, said that if it wasn’t for light from businesses and vehicles, Yen Lang Street would be pitch black.

For the elderly, travelling on the street in the evening is quite difficult.

Tran Thi Ngoc, 63, does not dare to ride a bicycle on the street in the evening due to potential accidents.

Pham Van Tuong, 48, who has been an environmental worker in the area for many years, recalled during Covid that the street appeared almost deserted at night.

After 10 pm, Tuong struggles to work in the almost complete dark.

The Hanoi Department of Transport’s Urban Transport Management Board was responsible for installing lighting on Yen Lang Street.
