According to Phu Tho General Hospital, Vietnam Airlines immediately coordinated and prioritised the transport of the heart from a brain-dead donor in Phu Tho for a transplant operation. The organ was flown from Phu Tho General Hospital to Hue Central Hospital.
Earlier that day at Phu Tho General Hospital, six tissues and organs were harvested from the same donor. To ensure timely delivery to major hospitals nationwide, local traffic police assisted with traffic flow around the hospitals.
At Noi Bai Airport, the airline voluntarily delayed departure by 15 minutes to await the medical team boarding the flight. Passengers waited patiently, united by a deep sense of humanity.
Given the stringent preservation period of organs, every step, from airport procedures and security checks to boarding, was expedited and treated with the highest priority. The medical delegation and donor heart were rushed immediately on arrival in Hue to perform the transplant surgery during the night.
With heart grafts only viable for up to six hours after removal, these resuscitation flights demand absolute precision, flexibility and swift action, the hospital said.
