Four of the tourists later recovered, while an unidentified man was rushed to Phu Quoc City’s Medical Centre for emergency treatment. He is now in critical condition.

The An Giang Department of Tourism and the Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee have requested that local tourism operators maintain on-duty staff and prohibit tourists from swimming during adverse weather conditions.

Earlier, on August 16, two tourists in Tien Hai Commune in An Giang drowned after waves capsized their paddleboard.
