Fishing boat owner found dead after collision off Khanh Hoa coast

After a two-day search, rescue teams found the body of a fishing boat owner following a collision with a foreign oil tanker off the coast of Khanh Hoa.

Nguyen Tran Ut, 49, from De Gi Commune in Gia Lai Province, was the owner and captain of the fishing boat BD 83019-TS.

On the night of October 4, the fishing boat, carrying 11 crew, was struck and sunk by the South Korean-flagged oil tanker Ms Favor (IMO 009448853) about 17 nautical miles southeast of Ca Na Estuary, Khanh Hoa.

Soon after the incident, fishing boat BV 95869-TS, captained by Nguyen Van Tao from Gia Lai, arrived at the scene and rescued 10 fishermen. The boat’s captain, Nguyen Tran Ut, remained missing.

The body of Captain Ut was then found near the site where the fishing boat had been struck and sunk.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and determine the responsibility of the foreign vessel involved.
