Sea water turns black and has foul smell on Phuoc My Beach in Da Nang City after a rain on August 9

Thousands of cubic metres of wastewater were seen flowing from drainage pipes to the beaches in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts after a heavy rain on the afternoon of August 9. The water also sent the foul smell.

A fisherman in Phuoc My Beach in Son Tra Island said that the situation has been occurring for several years.

"There are dozens of drainage pipes which are discharging wastewater and rainwater along the beaches here," the fisherman said. "We felt itchy after fishing in this water yesterday. Tourists should not bath at the beaches here after heavy rains."

Director of Da Nang Drainage and Wastewater Treatment Company, Mai Ma, told Dan Tri/Dtinews on Thursday afternoon that they had sent workers to collect rubbish and clean the environment near the pipe areas in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts.

"The drainage system in the city usually is overloaded after heavy rains," Ma explained.
