Con Dao to launch first electric bus route this month

Con Dao Island in HCM City will roll out its first electric bus service on December 19, linking the town centre with the airport.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has approved the unsubsidised Route 173, to be operated by Con Dao Group Joint Stock Company.

The 17.1-km service will run between Con Dao Market and Con Dao Airport with a journey time of around 30 minutes. Buses will operate from 5 am to 7 pm, providing 112 trips per day.

The outbound route travels via Pham Van Dong, Vo Thi Sau, Nguyen Hue, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Van Cu, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Co Ong Road and the internal road to Dam Trau Beach before continuing to the airport. The return service follows the reverse direction.

The HCM City Public Transport Management Centre will oversee operations, notify the operator of the approved plan, publish schedules and ensure passengers receive updates.

In addition to Route 173, five more electric bus routes are expected to be launched soon, extending the network to 74.33 km and covering roughly 90 per cent of the island’s road system.

The planned routes include 174 (central axes), 175 (Con Dao Centre-Ben Dam Port), 176 (north-west area-Con Dao Centre), 177 (south-east area-Con Dao Centre) and 178 (tourist attractions).
