
Vietnam Electricity successfully begins operations of the 110kV Con Dao Substation on September 4
The project marks a significant turning point for Con Dao, ensuring safe, reliable and continuous electricity supply to support economic and social development, and improve local living standards.
The scheme replaces costly and polluting diesel generators, helping to lower power costs, cut greenhouse gas emissions and advance Vietnam’s sustainable development commitments.
The 110kV project has a total length of 103.7 kilometres, comprising 17.5 kilometres of overhead lines, 77.7 kilometres of underwater cable, and 8.5 kilometres of underground cable on the island. Total investment reached VND 4,923 billion (approximately USD 193.4 million). EVN is the project owner.

Construction began in December 2024. The full cable laying was completed on August 12. The Vinh Chau 220kV substation expansion was finalised on August 5. Trial testing took place on August 22, and the system was officially switched on during the National Day holiday on September 2.
