The agency said the north-east and Thanh Hoa will turn cooler from April 23 due to the cold spell. Temperatures in the north and Thanh Hoa are forecast to range between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas dropping below 20 degrees Celsius.
From the evening of April 22 to April 23, the north is expected to see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with localised heavy rain. Similar conditions are forecast in the north-central region from April 23 to April 24, while the central region may experience thunderstorms from April 23 evening to April 25.
Authorities warned that thunderstorms could bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts.
On April 22, areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue are forecast to experience hot weather, with some locations exceeding 38 degrees Celsius. Danang and eastern parts of Quang Ngai and Dak Lak may see temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius.
