Local officials in A Luoi 1 Commune said the device was found close to Hong Trung Primary School during a school clean-up activity involving teachers and pupils.

The suspected explosive lay on land near the school gate and opposite the commune’s public administrative service centre, an area with frequent daily foot traffic.
After the discovery, school leaders immediately halted activities and alerted local authorities. Specialists from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) mine action project were deployed to handle the situation.
Experts identified the object as a BLU-26 cluster bomb that had lost its fuze. During an expanded search of the area, clearance teams also found an unfired 40mm grenade launcher round about 50 metres from the bomb.
Following technical assessment, NPA personnel collected and transported the ordnance to a central demolition site for disposal in accordance with safety regulations, ensuring there was no risk to the surrounding community.
