According to the Vietnam General Department of Customs, the 2020 Volkswagen Touareg model was temporarily imported earlier this month to be showcased at the event and slated to be re-exported in February next year.

Under regulations, Nguyen To An, a representative from Vietnam Register, said that cars which are temporarily imported into Vietnam for exhibition or research purposes do not have to be sent to Vietnam Register.
An added that even for other cars, his agency only checks environmental and technical standards.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen Vietnam admitted responsibility for this incident, saying that they did not carefully check the car. The company borrowed the car from Chinese partner Beijing-based Volkswagen Group Import Company Limited for Vietnam Motor Show.
An official from the Vietnam General Department of Customs said that the agency would seek opinions from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Justice for solutions to deal with the case.
The car may be confiscated, he emphasised.
Earlier, the film Abominable has also been pulled from Vietnamese cinemas for including a scene featuring a map which featured China’s so-called U-shaped Line in the East Sea.
