Cambodia court rejects protesters’ bail requests

Cambodia’s Appeal Court on February 11 denied bail requests for 21 protesters who were detained following violent clashes last month.

Cambodia’s Appeal Court on February 11 denied bail requests for 21 protesters who were detained following violent clashes last month.

Presiding Judge Khun Leang Meng made the decision after a three-hour hearing.

The detainees were charged with intentionally causing violence and destroying property.

Sam Sokong, a lawyer for the detainees, told reporters after the hearing that they will appeal against the decision at the Supreme Court.

Twenty-three protesters were arrested during violent clashes in protests demanding higher salaries for garment workers early last month. Two of them were released on February 8.
