Ngo Van Hung’s family in Thanh Hai Commune, Luc Ngan District harvested lychees at around 1 am.

Hung said that lychees which are sold in the early morning can have the best taste and look so local growers often try to pick up the fruit overnight for better sales. Sometimes, they harvest lychees in the late afternoon and come back home for dinner. Then they continue the work through the night.

Hung’s family grows around two hectares of lychees. His lychees are exported to Japan. He had to strictly conform to international standards when raising the fruit trees.

Hung and his wife had to spend a sleepless night on the lychee harvest.

This year, his family expected to harvest around 16 tonnes. To date, he has sold three tonnes at the price of VND15,000-25,000 per kilo.

Hung and 12 other households jointly set up Thanh Hai Agricultural Co-operative which specialises in lychees and some other kinds of fruits in line with VietGap and GlobalGap standards for export.
