A large-scale rice processing plant was put into operation in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on January 18.
Located on an area of 161,000 square metres in Tri Ton District, the Hanh Phuc Rice Processing Plant, the largest in Asia, has a daily capacity of 1,000 tonnes of processed rice.

According to Truong Sy Ba, chairman of Tan Long Group which is the project's investor, the plant uses Italian, German and Polish technology.
"The plant is built in the country's largest rice basket which is famous for many high-quality rice varieties," he said. "It is located on a rice field in Tri Ton District and is surrounded by four other rice fields in Thoai Son and Giang Thanh districts of An Giang Province, and Hon Dat and Kien Luong districts of Kien Giang Province. It is a very convenient location which helps transport fresh rice to the plant in the fastest way to keep the rice's best flavour."
At the event, Tan Long Group has signed a contract with An Giang Provincial People's Committee to purchase rice on an area of 30,000 hectares in the district in the first phase and will expand its purchasing area in the coming time.
Attending the inauguration ceremony of the rice plant, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc said it would play an important role in creating new added value for the domestic rice sector.

"An Giang should continue to form large-scale rice fields, promote production chains, and encourage startups in agriculture to raise productivity, production value and income for farmers," President Phuc said.
