The bomb was found on October 24 lying some two metres underground while work on a road project in Nghia Dan District was being done.

Chairman of Nghia Mai Commune People's Committee, Doan Van Huan, announced on Wednesday that the bomb was found on October 24 lying some two metres underground while work on a road project in Nghia Dan District was being done.

After being informed of the bomb, the district military command coordinated with a sapper unit from the provincial military command to isolate the area.

The bomb weighed over 100 kilos and had a diameter of 50 cm and a length of 1.3m. It was defused and moved to a safe area for a controlled detonation on October 26.


According to the Standing Office of the Vietnam National Steering Committee on the Settlement of Post-war Unexploded Ordnance and Toxic Chemicals, the country spent VND12.60 trillion (USD510 million) on bomb and mine detection and clearance during the 2010-2020 period.
