Under the plan, the Tho Xuan Airport’s capacity will be raised from 2.5 million passengers per year to 5 million in 2030.

The airport is located some 45 kilometres far from the west of Thanh Hoa City. It is used for both civil and military purposes.

In February 2013, it served the first flight on HCM City-Thanh Hoa route.

Last year, the airport welcomed 865,000 passengers.

A direct air route from Tho Xuan Airport to Bangkok, Thailand was also launched in 2017.

The CAAV reported that Tho Xuan is one of the airports that post the fastest growth in the country with comprehensive infrastructure and equipment and an international standard air traffic control tower which was put into service earlier this year.
