The HCM City Transport Department has just proposed to operate shuttle buses to transport passengers from the Tan Son Nhat Airport to a nearby parking area in order to ease possible congestion at the airport during the coming Tet Lunar New Year holiday.
According to the department, both the domestic and international terminals at Tan Son Nhat have seen congestion in recent days as more people have begun their Tet travelling. And the situation is predicted to get more serious in the coming days and many passengers will have to wait a long time to be picked up.
The department therefore proposed to use two 30-seater buses to operate between the international terminal, the domestic terminal and the parking area on Hong Ha Street.
"At the parking area, people can easily be picked up by relatives or get a taxi," the department said.
The shuttle bus service, which is free, will operate between January 23-27, and February 1-5.
Tan Son Nhat Airport is expected to serve 26,000 flights with four million passengers during the Tet Lunar New Year holiday from January 14-February 12, including 1.50 million international passengers and 2.50 million domestic passengers, up 6.25 percent in the number of flights and 5.36 percent in number of passengers compared to the same period last year. The airport is serving between 800-900 flights daily during the period.
